We’re heading off on a family adventure and opening our home to friends and friends of friends while we’re away.
Our 900-square-foot cottage is tucked into a secluded, wooded property in Grass Valley. Think windows full of trees, books within arm’s reach, and a year-round creek just outside.
This is our actual family home: comfortable, lived-in, and stocked for everyday life. A lovely place for a couple or small family to settle in, cook something good, and enjoy a few unhurried weeks.

Read by the forest-facing windows, play a few songs on the electric piano, or spread a board game across the table. There are books for all ages, art supplies, and plenty to keep little hands busy.

Step outside for fresh air, a slow morning on the deck, or time on the Sky Swing. Wander over to the garden, watch for wildlife, and enjoy the trees all around you.
There’s a rustic fire-pit area for gathering when local fire conditions allow. For bigger adventures, the foothills’ trails and river spots are a short drive away.

Part of the charm is being tucked away. Here’s what that looks like day to day.
Wood heat & fall evenings
The home is heated by a cast-iron wood stove. Plenty of firewood and kindling will be waiting, along with clear operating instructions. Guests should be comfortable tending a wood fire to heat the house.
Wi-Fi & phone reception
Fast, reliable Wi-Fi supports streaming, browsing, and remote work. There is little to no cellular reception at the house; plan to use Wi-Fi calling and internet-based messaging.
The kitchen, fully stocked
Full-size refrigerator/freezer, stove and oven, toaster oven, pots and pans, baking sheets, dishes, glasses, utensils, knives, cutting boards, basic spices, cooking oil, and food-storage containers.
Vitamix blender, Breville juicer, and two Excalibur dehydrators are also available. There is no microwave or dishwasher.
Bathroom, laundry & everyday essentials
One full bathroom with a tub/shower combination and adjustable-height handheld shower head. Towels, a hair dryer, toilet paper, and basic supplies are provided.
There’s a washer and dryer with detergent, plus paper products and cleaning supplies. The home has a first-aid kit, smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers.
Kids, pets & the outdoors
Children and pets are welcome. The yard is unfenced, with direct creek access and natural woodland around the house. Please plan for supervision of young children and pets near the creek and outdoors.
The fire pit may be used only when local fire conditions and restrictions allow. Area hiking trails require a short drive.
The country road & parking
The final approach includes roughly ½ mile of maintained dirt road. Normal passenger vehicles use it regularly, but expect a genuine country road rather than pavement all the way to the house. There’s plenty of room to park.
